US FDA approves plecanatide for IBS with constipation in adults

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved plecanatide 3 mg tablets (Trulance, Synergy Pharmaceuticals) for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) in adults. The drug is contraindicated in children younger than 6 years and should be avoided in patients younger than 18 years.
